Hunter S. Thompson // "We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and...in spite of true romance magazines...we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely...at least, not all the time...but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness."

It’s no secret that the anti-abortion student organization has been seen as the punching bag of campus with the precedent that no consequences will be had if they are tampered with. There have been countless times the anti-abortion group has had their displays tampered with and people are comfortable silencing a fellow student organization in broad daylight. If this had been any other student organization, there would be emails sent out by administration and Student Government would be issuing statements on the case quickly. But given it’s a student organization that represents something that is not popular or okay with the ever-popular radical college campus liberalism, it’s a different story.

As writers for the Eastern Echo, we are tasked with providing news to a wide variety of students. We have a valuable role and we should not take that lightly. But we have our own rights and we serve the entire student body. If we cover events on campus, we need to give these wide variety of voices their due diligence. News writers are committed to objectivity, to getting multiple perspectives and not picking and choosing between which are better for pushing one agenda.

It’s odd how the seasons first change so slowly and then seemingly all at once we’re thrown into a completely different universe. From feeling the sun melt on your skin until 9:00 p.m. to watching the outside world get swallowed by night before you’ve even had dinner, it is something us Michiganders must adapt to year after year. And yes, we can spruce it up with festivities like haunted houses and pumpkin patches and jacking up our excitement for the upcoming holiday season but the truth is, most people do in fact struggle with this drastic change after summer. It brings upon a very common struggle known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

It's a relatively rough time to be an American, especially as Election Season begins to rear its ugly head. With the 2020 Election being only 381 days away, it's becoming increasingly more obvious of just how hard Democrats are going to have to work in order to present a united front come election night. And with the fourth of twelve Democratic Debates happening last Tuesday, this struggle to unite was put on full display as trailing candidates flung attacks at front runners and tried desperately to make at least one news-worthy statement.

I was sculpting a figurette when I first heard this. That time, I recognized it as jazzy, good to work too. The second time, I realized it was a soulful anthem. Now I’ve listened to it so many times that it's a part of me.

Elizabeth Warren has distinguished herself in the Democratic primary as the candidate with big plans who’s not afraid to make big changes. Her steady growth in the polls is finally starting to overtake former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. - and with the Ukraine scandal threatening Biden’s candidacy, it’s starting to look like Warren is the candidate to beat. The other candidates at the fourth Democratic Debate on Tuesday, Oct. 15 definitely acted as if that were the case.
