The school year is quickly winding down and with it ends an eventful year for Eastern Michigan University’s athletic teams. As part of my weekly appearances on E-TV’s Eagles Sports Update, I share my “Eagle of the Week” – a player or coach who stands out to me for their performances in the week leading up to the show. For this, the final issue of the school year (not counting the summer semester), I have compiled a list of my Eagles of the Year for all of EMU’s sports, as well as for some specialized categories.

Former Eastern Michigan University guard Darell Combs committed to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on April 16. The 6-1 guard will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting one year.

On March 24, Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball coach Rob Murphy was announced as one of 15 finalists for the Ben Jobe Award. The Ben Jobe Award is presented annually to the top minority coach in Division I men’s basketball.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team lost in the second round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational tournament on Monday to the University of Illinois-Chicago 93-91.

EMU rests seniors, wins first round of WBI

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team won its first round game in the Women’s Basketball Invitational tournament on Thursday, in a game where coach Tory Verdi rested all of his seniors, beating Evansville University 78-65.

Eastern Michigan University forced Norfolk State University into 17 turnovers in its 58-54 win Tuesday night in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at the Convocation Center.
