Right to Life holds pro-life panel

Students of Eastern Michigan University made the trek to Halle Library on the night of Feb. 12 to attend a pro-life abortion panel. The panel was put on by Right to Life of Michigan with the help of Catholics on Campus, and featured a variety of experts, including a medical doctor, a pastor, community and nonprofit directors, and even an EMU student, Angela Little.

Food Scoop: Roasted Winter Vegetables

I’ve been obsessing over carrots again. Part of my day was consumed in combing through the indexes of cookbooks for carrot recipes. Many of them looked enticing: herbed carrot soup, carrot cake, curried carrot pie with coconut crust. I read through the lists of ingredients and tried to picture the taste and texture of that particular meal. There are so many choices that it was difficult to make a decision, and I went from hungry to very hungry. In the end, I went with a mix of roasted winter vegetables with a ginger soy sauce kick.

Vagina Monologues give women a voice

The Off-Broadway production, which was held last Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center Auditorium, was made up of EMU students who strongly believed in the V-word and making people comfortable – and sometimes uncomfortable – with it. Each skit varied both in length and emotional intent, with some making the audience cry and others making them laugh out loud.

With Valentine’s Day so close, how can there possibly be time for a handmade gift? Yes, it’s too late for hand knit mittens, but in order for a gift to be handmade, it doesn’t have to be 100 percent from scratch. Since Valentine’s Day comes right as everyone is just financially recovering from the holidays, don’t feel you have to spend a ton of money for a heartfelt gift—this is the holiday where the thought really does count.

On my first romantic Valentine’s Day, I received a necklace with a heart and a box of chocolates. It was very clichéd and entrenched in traditional gender roles. Still, I have to confess that I did love the chocolates. I loved the truffles so much, in fact, that I learned how to make them, and this year they are my Valentine’s treat to myself.

Matt On Music: Against Me! and Speedy Ortiz

Coming to a conclusion about an album like Against Me!’s “Transgender Dysphoria Blues” is difficult, because it’s hard to separate the music from the context. As Against Me!’s first album after lead-singer Laura Jane Grace came out as transgender, it clearly has a lot of social themes that are incredibly important at this time, but importance of that kind can often result in an album being overrated.

'Bob's Burgers' gets funnier as it goes on

“Bob’s Burgers” is one of the best shows on TV right now, and it’s probably the funniest. The voice acting is superb, with each member of Belcher family – Bob, his wife, Linda, and their three children, Tina, Gene and Louise – having enormously funny and distinctive personalities, and it just keeps getting better with every season.

Let me start off by saying that I am not an overly emotional person. I rarely cry during movies or while reading. You could say I’m a tough critic. That being said, the 2012 novel “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green made me cry like a baby in the best possible way.

Toni Braxton and Babyface’s R&B doesn’t have much in common with Katy B’s electropop, and I’m not going to pretend like it does.
