Healthy, gratifying ways for dessert lovers, others to find sweet satisfaction

Do you wake up in the middle of the night with a craving for ice cream, or find yourself going down the candy aisle and needing one more candy bar? You are not alone!

So many people have these sugar cravings that people through the years have coined a term just for such an occasion: They call it the “Sweet Tooth.”

For those who have a mouth full of sweet teeth, here are a few ideas to help you save your teeth and give you healthier, more filling options when it comes to sweets.

Make your own sweets using fruits: So many people forget the power of fruit. Fruit can be everything from a medical remedy to an aphrodisiac. Use foods like strawberries, grapes and tangerines in your mixtures.

These fruits do contain sugar but are far healthier than the high-fructose corn syrup that is found in most candy. Find uncommonly used fruits like passionfruit and star fruit. There are many different types of fruits you can find in the marketplace; pick up a few and experience something new.

Be creative when it comes to preparing your dishes: Treat yourself with fruit dipped in honey and remember there are also many different types of honey named after the blossom the nectar is taken from.

Try freezing a few slices of star fruit dipped in honey from the blueberry blossom. Parfaits are easy to make: A bit of yogurt and some berries will give you a sweet berry mix or a parfait bursting with one of your favorite flavors of fruit.

Classics are still always a good choice. Whipped cream and strawberries are always great, but you can spice it up by boiling the strawberries down into a light cobbler. The natural sweetness and sheer diversity of fruits allow for literally thousands of dishes you can prepare in your own home today.

Save it for later: No one ever said everything needs to be consumed as soon as you prepare it. If you are going to make a few sweets, why not add a few more for the fridge? Put your sweet little experiments on ice for that late-night craving we all occasionally have. Having healthy, homemade sweets on hand helps you avoid overindulging in the factory-made fattening junk food we are used to.

And if you are a skilled enough inventor, you might one day stumble upon a special concoction that will be named after you.

Use the Internet: The Internet is the biggest cook book resource in existence. At any time you choose, you can find millions of exotic ways for preparing food. Use this to your advantage by finding something that sounds good and expand your culinary skill. You never know when it will come in use.
