The Eastern Echo

Does having an I.Q. over what allows motor skills disqualify you from being a bureaucrat?

Seriously. Why does it seem anyone who works behind bulletproof glass seem to have an I.Q. rate of a chilly Michigan fall day? For those of you whom have had to deal with parking tickets, permits or needed any other local government service, I’m sure you can relate; and that’s too bad.

What causes “Shirley” to become so inept? Is it the system? So gunked up with red tape and politically correct laws she has no choice but to stare into space and shrug her shoulders when asked questions? But how does that explain the rudeness? Is it nepotism? Perhaps some retired sergeant’s kid flunked out of school and needed a job. Whatever it is, it’s frustrating for many of us when dealing with state and local workers.

For all the negative coverage Tea Partiers get, I can sometimes relate to them. If reducing government means firing many of the drones who work behind the counters at city halls around America, then I’m all for it.
