A woman was raped last Thursday at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Cornell Street according to an informational release from the Eastern Michigan University Police Department.
The woman was not an EMU student.
She was getting out of her vehicle when a group of males pulled up in a four-door black Kia Soul. All of the passengers exited the vehicle and got into another vehicle and left the area.
The driver of the first vehicle approached the woman and made advances toward her. The woman declined the advances and the man grabbed her and led her into the back seat of his vehicle, according to the release.
The man forced himself upon the woman and after a few minutes, he let her go and she ran back into her apartment building. The man fled the scene in his vehicle in an unknown direction.
The woman went to the hospital several hours later with a friend and the Ypsilanti Police Department was notified.
The suspect was described as an African American male with light complexion in his mid 30s. He is said to be 6 feet tall, 210-220 lbs, with a “patchy” beard.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Ypsilanti Police Department at 734-483-9510.
