EMU basketball to play in CBI tournament

The Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team will travel to take on the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks on Wednesday in Monroe, La., in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational tournament.

The Warhawks finished the season 21-12 and lost in the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Tournament.

The CBI was created by the Gazelle Group, who are event organizers and were founded in 1994. They also host the 2K Classic and Legends Classic tournaments during the regular season.

16 teams were selected for the tournament, among them are Colorado, Pepperdine, Vermont and Oral Roberts.

This will be the eighth year of the tournament and will be testing a 30-second shot clock for this years games.

After the first two rounds, teams will be re-seeded for the final four games and then the championship game with be a best-of-three series.

The Eagles are playing in their second straight year of postseason play. Last year they competed in the College Insiders Tournament, where they defeated Norfolk State at the Convocation Center but fell to Columbia in the second round.
