5k run will help support local county park

What better way to finally get on top of your workout routine than a 5k run to support a local county park?

“Park it and Run” is coming to Independence Lake County Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, and it is just the thing for anyone wanting to experience Michigan’s fall colors and a breath of fresh air.

The event includes a one-mile run/walk for kids and is designed for fun and affordable exercise for the entire family. The kid’s run/walk will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the 5k at 9:30 a.m.

I’m worried I won’t be able to run the whole way,” said Grace Poorman, a junior majoring in product design and development. “My knees just don’t carry me the way they used to.”

However, there is no pressure because these courses are perfect for all levels of runners and walkers, including beginners.

Registration is open through the day of the walk and it will be $25 to register in the 5k and $10 to register in the one-mile kid’s walk/run.

All information and registration can be found at parkitandrun.ewashtenaw.org. Those interested can also contact Lyla Ellens, the Park and Facility Manager of Independence County Park, at ellensl@ewashtenaw.org.
