Police Blotter, Jan 26

Thursday, January 21st, 2016.

  • DPS responded to a domestic violence call from Westview at 2:25 a.m. Thursday, January 21st. The victim, an EMU student, got into an argument with a non-EMU student which DPS said was the father of the victim's child. The argument turned into domestic violence. When DPS arrived the suspect was gone. They searched the area and discovered him at Cornell Courts, arrested him for domestic assault “aggravated by strangulation,” and took him to the Washtenaw County Jail. Charges have been recommended to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office.
  • A car parked at the Honor's College got its window broken at 7:25 a.m. January 21st. An unspecified amount of property was stolen from the car. DPS is reviewing camera footage. It also seems that there has been a pattern of similar crimes across town. DPS are working with the Ypsilanti Police Department on this.
  • A student shop lifted several items from Crossroads at 3:27 p.m. They called DPS, which found the student. The student paid for the items and will not be facing charges. This has been given off to student conduct.
  • Housing staff reported underage students in possession of alcohol at 10:54 p.m., Thursday. They found four people drinking, 3 of which were underage. This has been handed over to student conduct.

Friday, January 22nd, 2016.

  • A DPS squad car pulled over a vehicle with defective equipment at 5:01 p.m. When speaking to the two people inside, neither of whom were EMU students, they smelled marijuana. They searched the car and found marijuana. The driver was arrested for a bench warrant from Oakland county, driving on a suspended license and was cited for paraphernalia. The passenger was not cited or arrested.
  • DPS assisted the Ypsilanti Police Department on an assault on Jefferson, Friday, January 22nd, at 10:38 p.m. Because this an Ypsi case, DPS would make no further comment.
  • DPS responded to a fight on Perrin Street at 9:32 p.m. Two brothers, which DPS said weren't EMU students, got into an argument that turned physical. One of the brothers was arrested for aggravated assault.

Saturday, January 23rd, 2016.

  • DPS pulled over a 16 year old at the corner of Huron River Drive and Mayhew at 1:38 a.m., Saturday, January 23rd, for a traffic violation. The driver was intoxicated and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail for a blood draw. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of over 0.17%.
  • A student reported their tire was slashed at 4:52 p.m. Saturday. They parked their car in the North campus lot on January 22nd between 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. DPS is reviewing camera footage.

Sunday, January 24th, 2016.

  • DPS officers on patrol found two people arguing loudly outside of Best Hall at 12:18 a.m., Sunday, January 24th. The two students were drunk and underage. DPS is giving this to student conduct.
  • Two underage students were drinking alcohol in Downing early Sunday morning. Housing staff called DPS at 12:21 a.m. when one of the students threw up on one of the couches in the common area. DPS showed up and cited one of the students. This case has been sent to student conduct.
  • Another DPS patrol came across two EMU students walking near the intersection of Washtenaw Avenue and Normal Street at 3:57 a.m. Sunday. They say they stopped them because they were both carrying alcohol and appeared to be drunk. One of them was underage, and one wasn't. Their public intoxification has been referred to student conduct.
