EMU and Ypsilanti Black History Month 2020 event calendar

A look ahead at the events in the community and on EMU's campus celebrating Black History Month.

This year’s Black History Month celebration is themed around voting, this year being the 100th anniversary of the nineteenth amendment, which gave women the right to vote, and the 150th anniversary of the fifteenth amendment, which gave black men the right to vote.

Ypsilanti and Eastern Michigan University have a variety of events throughout the month in celebration of Black History Month. Within the community, the Parkridge Community Center is hosting an event titled, “Men of Courage, Strength and Service”.

Feb. 29: Men of Courage, Strength and Service (5 - 8:00 p.m.)

“Please grab your father, brother, husband, uncle, cousin, and friend and join us for our annual Black History Month event, celebrating the Men in our Community. Pastor Harold Wimberly will be our Keynote Speaker,” the Facebook event page said.

The event will take place at Parkridge Community Center, located at 591 Armstrong Dr. Ypsilanti, MI.

There are several events on EMU’s campus sponsored by the EMU Center of Race and Ethnicity and hosted by a variety of organizations on campus. Here is a full list of what to expect this month:
