02414 -- Scott Stephenson Eastern Echo Scholarship:  This expendable scholarship is for the benefit of student(s) in the School of Communication, Media & Theater Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences.  It will be awarded to a full or part-time junior or senior EMU student majoring in journalism and working for the Eastern Echo.  The student should be working to self-finance their education and not be eligible for need-based grants.

Death of man found in Peninsular Park ruled a homicide

A man was found deceased in Peninsular Park on Sunday, and his death has been ruled a homicide.

The Ypsilanti Police Department ruled that the deceased man found in Peninsular Park on Sunday, Jan. 16, died by homicide.

The cause of death and how long the deceased man was at the park before being found is not known, according to police. No information on the suspects is known.

The deceased individual was found by a passerby at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The Ypsilanti Police Department said the man was between 30 and 40 years old.

The Eastern Michigan University Department of Public Safety said there are no known threats to the campus community.

The Ypsilanti Police Department is asking anyone with information to call 734-483-9510.

DPS is also reminding students to take the following steps to remain safe:

  • Report any suspicious person/activity 
  • Walk in pairs when appropriate
  • Walk in well lit areas
  • "If You See Something-Say Something" by calling or texting 911
