Review: The Best Released Music from Friday, Jan 14

Jan 14 was jam packed with so many exciting releases; here are some you might have missed.

Friday is always a special time for music fans, as it is the day for music releases. Jan 14 gave music listeners so many great drops, it's hard to focus on only one. Here are some of the best releases from that Friday:

Earl Sweatshirt's "Sick!":

The kings of abstract rap and a past Odd Future member is finally back with his new album “Sick!”. On this project, he veers off from the flow and rhythm from his other previous projects. In addition to this album’s flow, Earl hops on a much more refreshing production style. His lyricism provide a clear progression from where he was when he released “Doris” back in 2013, not only in ability, but also as an individual, clearly demonstrating mental growth.

Best songs: “Sick!”, “Vision(feat. Zelooperz)” and “God’s Laugh”.

Cordae’s “From A Birds Eye View”:

Here with his sophomore album and first album free from YBN, Cordae gives us “From a Birds Eye View”. He comes in with a braggadocios, yet self aware perspective on all 14 tracks. This album is feature heavy and if you are a fan of older hip-hop, this is a must listen for you. If you are not as big of a fan of that old school style, there is a large chance his flow and lyrics will come off stale or corny.

Best songs: “Chronicles( feat. H.E.R. & Lil Durk)'', “C Carter'' and “Today(feat. Gunna)”.

FKA Twig’s “Caprisongs”:

The Apple Music description for this LP is ”The polymath’s mixtape is serpentine and exquisite” and this is the perfect commentary for this electric album. She starts the album with “ride the dragon” saying “I’m still that mysterious bitch,” which is truly an accurate definition of the Capricorn singer. The UK artist comes in with a squeaky voice and relatable storytelling as she takes you on a trip throughout this mixtape.

Best songs: “meta angel”, “oh my love”, “careless(feat. Daniel Caesar)”

These three great albums were not the only Friday deliveries, as there were plenty of enjoyable singles released as well.

“Rush” by Raveena:

RnB fans received a great single from the lovely Raveena titled “Rush.” The lucid singer gives her fans a bubbly yet hip swaying track all in just three minutes.

"Little Bother" by King Princess & Foushee:

The “Deep End” artist Foushee and the pop talent King Princess link up on “Little Bother." This track was previously on King Princess’ Instagram story, so fans have been eagerly waiting for awhile.

“Revenge” by Joey Bada$$:

The Brooklyn beat Joey Bada$$ came back with his single “Revenge” wreaking havoc with its energy. This is orchestrated with the bighorns and the boastful lyrics like “They say success is the best revenge.”

"Surround Sound" by JID:

JID comes in with two other dynamic Atlanta artists, 21 Savage and Baby Tate, on a sensational Aretha Franklin sample. The Dreamville artist continues to exhibit his talent as he goes for the throat with every verse.

"All Eyes On Me" by Earthgang:

Finally, the Atlanta duo is back with another single as they prepare for their upcoming album “Ghetto Gods." This dynamic track focuses on the tragedies and struggles of being an African American in the United States.

Not often are we given so many hits in one weekend. Hopefully in the near future we get new music from artists that have taken a hiatus. This is only a glimpse of all the great music that will be releasing this year.
