From concerts to collage-creating events, there is no shortage of things to do around Ypsilanti this week! Make the most of the last few weeks of summer by trying out some of these events.

Books and Brews BNB Playdate – July 30, 2025

On Wednesday, July 30, nonprofit organization Our Community Reads will be collaborating with local bar Mash Ypsilanti (located on 400 N. River St.) to host Books and Brews, a unique fundraising event for Our Community Reads, from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. This event will feature open mic reads, games, drinks, and great DJ music. 

There is no required entry fee, but Our Community Reads suggests a $10 donation per attendee.

John E. Lawrence Summer Jazz Series – Aug. 1, 2025

Every Friday in August 2025, the John E. Lawrence Summer Jazz Series will celebrate its five-year anniversary with a live concert in Ford Lake Park. There will be a total of five performances over the course of August, each featuring a different national recording jazz artist. 

The upcoming performance on Aug. 1 will feature Randy Scott, a saxophonist, record producer, teacher, and composer who has released several albums and Billboard number-one singles. In 2020, Scott was named "Breakout Artist of the Year." He earned his bachelor's degree in music education from Michigan State University and his master's degree from Wayne State University.

All concerts begin at 7 p.m., and Ford Lake Park is located at 9075 S. Huron River Drive in Ypsilanti. There is a $20 parking fee for each concert.

Seraphina Provenzano and ChuChu Houle at Ypsi Alehouse – Aug. 2, 2025

On Saturday, Aug. 2, singer-songwriter Seraphina Provenzano will be performing her original songs with fingerstyle guitar at the Ypsi Alehouse from 7 to 9 p.m. Guitarist and singer-songwriter ChuChu Houle will be joining her for an evening of beautiful and heartfelt music. The Ypsi Alehouse is located at 124 Pearl St. in Ypsilanti.

Soccer vs. Detroit Mercy – Aug. 3, 2025

Sports fans will be excited to know that a new exciting – and free – athletic event is just around the corner! On Sunday, Aug. 3, the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team will have its first home scrimmage of the season against the University of Detroit Mercy. This scrimmage will take place in Paul Scicluna Soccer Field from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Collage & Chill at Dzanc House – Aug. 5, 2025

Every first and third Tuesday of each month, local arts organization Dzanc House offers a relaxing Collage & Chill event from 6 to 8 p.m. The next Collage & Chill event will be on Aug. 5. 

According to Dzanc House's website, Collage & Chill has no set agenda or theme; the event is simply an opportunity for people to get together and create collages. 

Supplies will be provided, but attendees are also welcome to bring their own. There is no fee to attend the event, but $5 donations are appreciated. 

Dzanc House is located at 402 S. Huron St. in Ypsilanti.


Allie Beecher

Allie Beecher uses she/her pronouns, and has worked for The Eastern Echo since August 2024. She started as a copy editor, then moved to Copy Desk Chief in the 2025 summer semester. Beecher is a junior double majoring in Business and Public Relations. 

Her job entails supervising The Echo’s copy editing team, ensuring all the content is error-free, and reviewing all work to make sure it follows AP style guidelines. For her, the best part is being able to use her skills to make a difference in the EMU and Ypsilanti community.
