National anti-abortion group brings jumbotron to campus on Sept. 13

The group will place the anti-abortion images near Pray-Harrold lawn on EMU’s campus.

Eastern Michigan University students attending class Tuesday may notice a group with a large screen located on the lawn near Pray Harrold. The jumbotron belongs to Created Equal, a nationwide anti-abortion group that attends pro-life events, campuses and other large public venues to spread their beliefs on abortion.

The group will be present at EMU on Sept. 13 from 9:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m as part of their campus outreach program.

This is a part of the group's public outreach efforts focused on creating informed dialogue with young adults across the United States. The group said that they will not yell at students to force them to engage, but will attempt to engage in conversation with passerbys.

“Not until JumboTron TV have the primary victims of abortion been represented in such a profound way,” Created Equal said.

Created Equal uses cutting-edge video technology to represent its anti-abortion message to large audiences across the nation. In the past, the group has brought its outreach programs to several U.S. universities including Iowa State University, Indiana University, the University of Missouri and more.

“While the images shown may be difficult for some to view, it is important to note that Eastern is a public university that has an obligation and deep commitment to free speech, regardless of point of view,” stated an email from EMU University Communications.

The university recommends that students experiencing difficult emotions due to these photographs should utilize campus Counseling and Psychological Services.
