EMU volleyball swept in weekend at Western Michigan

Eagles volleyball played a two-game series in Kalamazoo on Nov. 4-5, 2022. The Broncos swept the Eagles in both matches.

Eastern Michigan University volleyball (5-22, 4-11 MAC) visited the Western Michigan University Broncos (16-11, 8-7 MAC) for a pair of matches on Nov. 4-5. The Eagles were swept by the MAC rivals in their first time at University Arena since 2019.

Friday’s match saw Samantha Basham record seven kills and four in the next. In her senior year at EMU, she has now earned 861 kills.

Meanwhile, freshman Carlina Bender recorded 10 digs on Friday and two aces on Saturday, totaling a dozen in her career so far.

The final score on Friday was 3-0, and the Eagles hoped to make a come back the next day.

In Saturday’s match, junior Bella Hommes topped her previous season high for digs in a match with 17 total, scoring at most 15 previously. Over the weekend, Hommes totaled 32 digs and set another personal high with her most in any series so far this season.

The results of Saturday’s match was 3-0 again.

The next time to catch the Eagles volleyball team live is Friday, Nov. 11 when EMU will host the Northern Illinois University Huskies in their last home series of the season. The Senior Night match, which will be the team’s senior night, starts at 6 p.m. and will be available on ESPN3.
