The Holy Bones Halloween Festival organizers have decided to return to Ypsilanti with a holiday market for a second year.

This year's Krampusmrkt Handmade Holiday Bazaar market takes place on Dec. 3 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is free to the public. The market will take place in the Ypsilanti Freighthouse, located at 100 Market Place.

Those who haven’t heard of the term Krampus may wonder what a Krampus is.

"In Alpine folklore, Krampus is a horned goat creature who punishes those who misbehave," Holly Schoenfield, organizer of the event, said.

In addition to the main event, an official Krampusnacht holiday market after-party will take place at Keystone Bar & Arcade, located at 200 W Michigan Ave., from 5 p.m. to midnight.

"Last year's event was a huge success. Though I wasn't able to attend due to COVID, I heard rave reviews from artists and attendees alike about the fun spirit of the event. This year, we moved to the Ypsilanti Freighthouse to accommodate more vendors," Schoenfield said.

Each vendor will have at least one Krampus-themed item.

"Krampusmrkt, and our other Holy Bones events, are designed to celebrate the darker arts. There will be a variety of gifts and goods crafted by local artisans, including home goods, candles, coffee, art prints, and more," Holly Schoenfield said.

This year, the Krampusmrkt Handmade Holiday Bazaar will feature over 40 vendors, double the number of vendors in the original 2021 run of this holiday market.

"We would love to make this a recurring event that grows each year. We're delighted that Keystone is collaborating with us, and we hope to build more connections with local businesses and artists as we grow," Schoenfield said.

More information about the Krampusmrkt Handmade Holiday Bazaar can be found on the official website.
