Former EMU Eagle Gunnar Oakes signs with USFL’s Michigan Panthers

Former Eastern Michigan University football player, Gunnar Oakes, has officially inked a new deal with the Michigan Panthers of the United States Football League (USFL), the league announced Tuesday, July 12.

Oakes was selected by the Panthers in this year’s USFL draft back in February. He will still remain eligible to sign an NFL contract this season if the opportunity presents itself.

After his EMU career came to end, Oakes previously worked out for the Detroit Lions at their pro day and was also invited and participated in the Atlanta Falcons rookie minicamp.

Oakes played six seasons for the Eagles as he totaled 56 receptions for 621 receiving yards, with two touchdowns throughout his collegiate career.

Another former EMU football player, Terry Myrick, currently plays for the Panthers as Oakes will now join him as the lone Eagles apart of the USFL.
