Career Fair 2024

EMU hosts Spring Job Fair to connect students to hiring employers on March 27

Eastern Michigan University will be connecting students to roughly 70 employers to engage in hiring opportunities during the Spring Job Fair on March 27 in the Student Center Ballroom.

The school’s University Advising and Career Development Center (UACDC) organizes the event to help support students in their endeavors. EMU students will be able to access a spread of employers at the job fair with the inclusion of each program except teaching, which will be its own event, from 4-7 p.m.

John Carlson, senior corporate relations manager at the UACDC, wants to welcome all students to take advantage of the event even if they are hesitant.

"It's okay to be afraid. It's okay to feel the nerves. It's a part of the journey. All of you are welcome," Carlson said.

The Student Center Ballroom will be lined with booths of employers offering positions within their industries. Attendees will be offered a free professional headshot and a ready room for faculty to ease the process of formulating questions and pitches.

Professional attire, copies of your resume, and note-taking are encouraged. Included in student tuition are four articles of business clothing from the UACDC Career Closet if students need assistance with event attire.

Carlson emphasized how students can utilize dialogue with employers and faculty to "model your curiosity" to find their path through conversation. He touched on how answering internal questions about your mission, how you would want to accomplish it, who is incorporated in it, and the key of why can help provide focus on how you experience the event.

Angel Oppong, a second-year student at EMU, shared her experience as both an attendee and a student employee of the Career Closet.

"I would advise everyone to attend, just for the experience. They definitely give a lot of opportunities and help when it comes to things to find, especially in the job field and interviews," Oppong said.

Though employer registration is closed and sold out, if employers are interested in participating in future events, they can connect to fairs through the platform Handshake.

Carlson encourages students to take advantage of the services of the UACDC during their attendance at EMU and after they establish themselves in their careers.

"One of the things I want to remind our [alumni] about is these are resources. We are resources here in career services that are available forever. They've already paid for them. Next year, three years [from now], as life continues to happen," Carlson said.
