Ypsilanti City Council calls closed session amid Arbor One Apartments litigation

The Ypsilanti City Council announced Thursday that it would hold a closed session during its Jan. 21 meeting to discuss two pending litigations in which the city is involved.

The city cited the Open Meetings Act of 1976, 15.268 (e), which allows closed meetings "to consult with its attorney regarding trial or settlement strategy in connection with specific pending litigation, but only if an open meeting would have a detrimental financial effect on the litigating or settlement position of the public body."

Anything discussed during the closed session will not be be disclosed to the public.

Two cases were confirmed by the city clerk to be on the agenda for Tuesday's closed session: VTP River Woods LLC and VTP Arbor One LLC v City of Ypsilanti and David McGill v City of Ypsilanti.

The conditions of Arbor One Apartments have recently caught the attention of FOX 2 News Detroit and WXYZ Channel 7 Detroit after complaints and notices of noncompliance were taped to Arbor One North doors, according to Reddit users.
