The final season of "You" on Netflix, released on April 24, is trending. This series is based on a book series by Caroline Kepnes and developed by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. It's a psychological thriller filled with plot twists and murder. This season features Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg and Charlotte Ritchie as Kate.
This season follows Joe facing his past actions and finally being held accountable for the deaths. Joe is discovering what it's like to be a normal person with his family. But things take a turn when his wife Kate wants him to murder someone else for her agenda to protect their family. This brings his authentic self back to life. He remembers his killer self and embraces himself.
Highs
The main highlight is Badgley as Joe; his portrayal is compelling. He captures Joe's personality as charming, manipulative, and obsessive. Joe experiences guilt for his actions and dissociation, which is impressive. The emotional chaos within Joe is chilling and compelling; he confronts himself for his previous murders and tries to justify the killing.
The performance of Anna Camp as Reagan and Maddie was intriguing because these twins have opposite personalities. Reagan is a heartless woman who strives to make everyone around her miserable, especially her sisters. Maddie is happy and cares for her sister until she has no other choice.
Madeline Brewer’s portrayal of Brontë was full of spirit and completely tricks Joe, which is a plot twist. She is Joe’s last romantic interest; she is determined and a literary lover. She has a goal when she meets Joe, and this becomes interesting for the fans due to the plot twists.
The ending of the series was satisfying, and it finally brought this serial killer to justice. Joe’s previous love interests ended this cycle; they are these determined women who want to hurt Joe. There is one love interest that returns to this season, which excites the audience. The plot twists in this season were entertaining and kept the audience engaged.
Lows
There were minimal lows; the main one was the repetitive themes, as they lacked originality. There should have been a different pattern for Joe that could have made this last season more interesting. The other low point was that Brontë was too easily manipulated, losing sight of the end goal multiple times. Her character needed more depth, and she wanted to avenge Beck but fell in love with Joe instead.
Verdict
‘You’ final season is worth watching. This last season was much needed to end the psycho cycle of Joe Goldberg. It was full of plot twists and intense moments of dissociation from Joe.
