As results come in for the Ypsilanti primary election, incumbent mayoral and City Council candidates, all Democrats, are on track to retain their seats ahead of the general election. There were no Republicans in the race.
Mayor
Mayor Nicole Brown is set to enter her second term in the city of Ypsilanti after winning the primary against challenger, Ward 3 Council Member Amber Fellows. Brown won by 56.26%, receiving 2,697 votes while Fellows received 2,090 votes.
Fellows and Brown ran against each other for mayor in 2022, as well. At that time, Brown was a Ward 1 Ypsilanti City Council member and Fellows was a Ward 3 council member. Brown won the 2022 race.
City Council
Ward 1 and Ward 2 Ypsilanti City Council seats were on the primary ballot, too.
Incumbent Me'Chelle King won against Bryan R. Foley in the Ward 1 race for a Council seat. King received 856 votes, beating Foley, who received 410 votes.
This will be King's second consecutive term as a Ward 1 council member.
In Ward 2, Patrick A. McLean and Amy Rondel ran against each other. McLeanwon, bringing in 890 votes and defeating Rondel, who had 805 votes.
