Ypsilanti District Library Michigan Avenue branch reopens after bed bugs

The Ypsilanti District Library branch at the Michigan Avenue location reopened Friday morning, Aug. 21, after evidence of bed bugs closed the branch on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

An investigation was completed Thursday, Aug. 20, allowing YDL to reopen the next day.

"Thankfully the bedbugs were flagged right away, and our staff are trained to respond to situations like this quickly. The affected area was treated this morning, and trained inspection dogs (Bugsy and Jill) checked every inch of the building to confirm no other areas were affected," a YDL Facebook post said.

The bed bugs were only found in the first floor computer bank. That area has since been treated and none of the materials or furniture were affected.

The YDL is open during its normal hours, 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., on its reopening day.

"We're back open and everything has been treated and taken care of," Sam Killian, the community relations coordinator at the YDL, wrote in an email to The Echo.
