Professional scare actors at Wiard's Orchards prepare for a night of terror

October 31

For the Halloween season, Wiard's Orchards, on Merritt Road in Ypsilanti, becomes a field of Night Terrors. After sunset on the weekends, the Ypsilanti apple orchard transforms into five haunted-house-style attractions, each with its own theme. One of the key features of that transformation is a professional crew of makeup artists and scare actors who combine their talents to create the visuals that will entertain and scare visitors. The final weekend of the 2025 season is Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.

Pumpkins on The Patio 2025

Hosted by Campus Life, Pumpkins on the Patio returned to the EMU Student Center on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. Outside, students were able to pick pumpkins to carve and enter into a contest, while inside, multiple tables of student vendors promoted their organizations and provided more spooky goods and services! Mental Health and Wellness Fair

The Mental Health and Wellness Fair was held on the first floor of the EMU Student Center on Oct. 22, 2025, with multiple different tables covering different areas of mental health and disability. Cultural Expo 2025

The Cultural Expo was hosted by the International Student Association, the South East Asian Student Alliance, and Campus Life. The cultures included were American, Bangladeshi, Black American, Filipino, German, Japanese, Indian, Iraqi, Korean, North African, Pakistani, Palestinian, Syrian, and Thai. Little Caesars Grand Opening

The Grand Opening of the new Little Caesars franchise in the Eastern Michigan University Student Center was held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025. The Little Caesars moved from its old location in the former Crossroads market to the previous location of BUILD. The restaurant serves by the slice and whole pizzas in the form of a Detroit-style four-corner or a thin crust, among a variety of other items. (Gallery by Kaleb Stanley)

Eagle Spot Vending Grand Opening

The brand-new Eagle Spot market opened Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025. The new Eagle Spot replaced the old E|Dining Market in the Eastern Michigan University Student Center with four vending machines, a microwave and seating. The vending machines feature coffee, soda, energy drinks, chips, pastries and a variety of other items. The new Eagle Spot also has disposable silverware for visitors to use. Self-service market opens in Pray-Harrold

Eastern Michigan University's E|Dining opened a self-service market Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, in the former cafe space of the Pray-Harrold classroom building. E|Dining officials announced in a written statement that they will host a grand opening celebration of the new market Tuesday, Oct. 21. E|Dining also announced the opening of Little Caesars in the Student Center would open Tuesday, with a celebration scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22. (Photos by Max Taylor)

EMU Orchestra & Symphonic Band Fall concerts 2025

The EMU Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band performed their fall concerts on Thursday, Oct. 9 and Friday, Oct. 10 2025 in Pease Auditorium. The EMU Symphony Orchestra featured graduate conductor Rodrigo Amorim who conducted two Brazilian pieces titled Batuque. Dr. Chad Hutchinson closed out the rest of the concert with Symphony No. 2 by Jean Sibelius. The EMU Symphonic Band presented their concert titled "Influences" and was conducted by J. Nick Smith. Intermedia Gallery Group hosts Cyanotype Workshop

Intermedia Gallery Group hosted its first Cyanotype Workshop Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, where Eastern Michigan University student Madison Cantrell taught the process of sun print photography. The Moonlight Mocktails event was held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at EMU's Sherzer Observatory. This event was a first of its kind for both of its organizers, E|Dining and The Astronomy Club. The 3rd annual Ypsi FreakFest showcases the Midwest music scene and local businesses in Ypsilanti. Windgate Arts Complex: A year after opening

A year after its opening, the Windgate Arts Complex at Eastern Michigan University continues to provide opportunities for art and design students. Recently, the Windgate Foundation, a key donor to the art complex, provided EMU with a potential $200,000 matching grant that will be used to establish a fellowship program in 3D art for undergraduate and graduate students. The Windgate Arts Complex is a one-stop-shop for EMU's 3D arts classes, studios and other spaces. Students can take classes at Windgate in everything from sculpture to jewelry making to digital fabrication. This gallery displays some of the facilities within the building and artwork created by faculty and students.

Growing Hope blossoms along Michigan Avenue

Managed by volunteers, Growing Hope is a urban community farm, where people gather to grow their own food. Since 2003, the nonprofit organization has aided the community through local food production and education. The farm is a place where working-class families can have a small plot and assistance in tending their gardens. The farm also grows fruits and vegetables that are sold at the Ypsilanti Farmers MarketPlace.

Honors College Fall Fest 2025

The Honors College at Eastern Michigan University is back again with its annual Fall Fest. This year's Fall Fest 2025 featured s'mores, bonfires, DIY sugar rubs, pumpkin painting and other activities. The event allowed students to unwind, hang out with friends and enjoy the fall spirit. Birdwatching at Eastern Michigan University

October 12

Mid-September to early October is peak season for bird fall migration in Michigan, with the BirdCast platform reporting that nearly 16 billion birds have flown across Washtenaw County. BirdCast uses weather-radar systems to track migrating birds across the United States and maintains online monitoring maps and dashboards. Another way to track the birds of Washtenaw County is to wander around Eastern Michigan University's campus. On a recent walk, staff from The Eastern Echo found numerous birds inhabiting the trees and ponds. View this gallery to see the birds they discovered.
