Petie the Dog (PTD) Productions’ presentation of the play “Jigsaw” is lively and lighthearted. The play was written by Dawn Powell in 1934, but has not enjoyed much popularity over the years. The Midwest premier run took place at Ypsilanti’s Riverside Arts Center, 76 N Huron St., on Dec. 5 and is running through Dec. 14.

It’s been a long time since I’ve stayed up until 4 a.m. to finish a book, but Rainbow Rowell’s latest release, “Fangirl,” kept me up past my bedtime. “Fangirl” is unexpectedly complex. It examines the aches and joys of life in a situation many college students can identify with.

The battle for Mexican restaurant supremacy rages on. With a plethora of eateries in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area offering quality Mexican dishes, it’s hard to decide who will emerge as the frontrunner. Enter La Fuente.

With the Earth shattering, highly intense, mind blowing action packed film of “The Avengers,” leading up to “Thor 2: The Dark World” you might say that high expectations are set for the sequel of the original “Thor,” as is for any movie sequel.

I love Halloween. Not so much for the costumes, but for the candy, the Devil’s Night pranks and in anticipation of what the girls’ costumes will look like. Who doesn’t love curling up with some apple cider with a splash of vodka, and watching “Friday the 13th”? The energy is really dope though and it has me thinking of some great horror themed hip-hip songs. So here we go, without further ado, my top 10 hip-hop songs for Halloween.

With all of the disposable rubbish that comes out of Hollywood, it’s a breath of fresh air when a good movie is released. It’s so unfortunate that the film industry has had the stink of the comic book genre linger on the business for years now. It would seem that a lot of the movies that get greenlit nowadays are the results of overeducated agents, ne’er-do-well producers and excessive cocaine use. But all of those bad feelings were purged upon one screening of “The Counselor.”

Imagine having no identity – no sense of self, gender, race or even a name. In David Levithan’s novel “Every Day” that’s what the main character, simply known as A, has to experience. Every day of A’s life is lived differently, in somebody else’s body.

Let me be the first to say, I love it when local rappers/singers/bands/musicians start to shine. I love it when their respective cities collect their due, and I love it even more when the synergy created is created in my own home state.

“Jackass: Bad Grandpa,” the fourth film from the franchise, will be filled with all of the crass hidden camera debauchery that we’ve come to know and love, with a bit more direction than the previous “Jackass” films.

Here’s the thing about Chelsea Fagan’s “I’m Only Here for the WiFi:” It is downright, oftentimes, laugh-out-loud funny. Fagan just has a way of turning a phrase – well, more like concocting a phrase-like cocktail out of overwhelming sarcasm, addictive wit and unavoidable truth. Only then does she inject the narcotic into your veins and let it marinate. I’m sorry, did I say marinate? I meant cause a ruckus.
