Annual autism walk raises awareness

Wednesday, the men of Eastern Michigan University’s Iota Phi Theta Fraternity hosted their annual Autism Walk. The event was established in April 2012 by Thomas H. Crawford III, a member of the fraternity.
On Thursday, April 10, Inspired Motivational Activists Geared toward Education (I.M.A.G.E.) held its third annual Talent Showcase in Eastern Michigan University’s Student Center Auditorium. It was the final showcase for the semester. The members of the organization performed pieces that conveyed their particular talent.
“I don’t mind helping and encouraging someone and showing them a positive side of themselves,” said Eastern Michigan University senior Mone’ Cross, who recently created an Instagram page called emu_success. The page features students from EMU who have made a positive impact on the community or anyone who has done anything successful. Currently, the page displays uplifting images of present EMU students as well as alumni.

“We used words like retard, fag, slut and nigger,” said Blake Navarre, a member of Eastern Michigan University’s CloseUP, when explaining the group’s latest performance.
