While 2009 is still fresh in our minds, it is important that we start 2010 right. Just like in 2009, the huge banks are propped up with taxpayer dollars. The Huffington Post has come up with a way we can get back at the banking cartels.

I thought we had seen the worst MTV had to offer. The Real World and Road Rules had turned into softcore porn and I thought the mindless drones who watched it would eventually get bored with it. I thought the absurdity of watching rich, spoiled humans with toilets for souls would wear people out, and they’d seek out new things to do with their lives.

There will be further discussion about the materials used for the sign when the full DDA board meets Dec. 17. There will also be a vote on which suggested sign the DDA will use.

The Sarah Palin media blitz has begun. Her book will sell a ton of copies, and she will probably begin to build herself up for a run at the presidency. She will make appearances on the talk show circuit and talk about what she thinks is wrong with America. I hope someone gives her a reality show and hopefully the fame and fortune she receives will be enough to keep her away from politics forever.

Well, the federal government is at it again. Bush era policies of spying and sneaking around are alive and well within the Obama administration. This time, they tried to track where citizens get their information. And they did not want you to know about it.

Thanks to the support of millions of Americans, the FCC has moved forward with a pledge to preserve net neutrality. Most people can see the Internet has opened up a world of free expression that 20 years ago seemed like something from a science fiction novel. Some people cannot handle the freedom the Internet gives us. They want to block certain Internet traffic for their own benefit, while limiting individual free speech.

One of the best things about America is that our government is required by law to operate openly and honestly. There are a lot of bureaucrats with red tape who help keep track of important data. They print out and sign numerous forms and file reports that are to be made available to the public by request.

I couldn’t help but notice a flyer I saw on campus the other day. It was a Republican flyer blaming all of Michigan’s recent economic, education and unemployment woes on incumbent Gov. Jennifer Granholm. The solution the flyer suggests is electing a Republican governor to fix all the damage the Democrat governor caused. It was more of the same “us versus them” mentality that led to our problems in the first place.

This Oct. 7th marked the eighth year our country has spent fighting the war in Afghanistan.
This is one of the longest wars we have ever been involved in.

At the annual Human Rights Campaign President Obama pledged to the LGBT community that he would end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the military. While I think this is an action that is long overdue, we need to know specifically what the president intends to do to change this policy. As a former United States Marine I can tell you simply forcing the military to accept gays could potentially end in disaster. This is an opportunity to gain equality for the LGBT community, therefore cannot allow this pledge to be executed haphazardly.

Mainstream media outlets are mostly unreliable these days. Instead of serving the public good as our founders intended they are operating only to make a profit. Good journalism is hard to find when so many newsrooms rely on press releases from the White House to get their stories.
