A would-be purse thief in Ann Arbor was foiled Saturday morning by an Eastern Michigan University student who was on his way to the Vault of Midnight comic book store at 219 S. Main St.
Candidates running for Student Government president and vice president had the chance to make their case and state their positions during Wednesday evening’s debate at the Student Center. Presidential candidates Josh Lowe and his running mate Jacob Speck, David Yanagi and his running mate Ryan Roper and Matthew Norfleet and his running mate Desmond Miller were questioned by moderators Katrease Stafford, Editor-in-Chief of The Eastern Echo and Mary Larkin, the program coordinator for the LGBT Resource Center.
The Student Government sponsored “Rock the Vote” event kicked off this week with special appearances by Congressmen John Dingell and Hansen Clarke on Thursday afternoon. Both congressmen gave rousing speeches to a large crowd of students on why it’s important to not only register to vote, but to actually get out and vote on Election Day.
“Imagine you are a woman making dinner for your family when a militia group barges into your home and says they are going to rape you in front of your husband and children,” said guest speaker Carrie Crawford in a lecture that was part of Women’s History Month.
Repairs at Halle Library have been completed and the ground floor will re-open today, just in time for classes to resume from winter break.
On Wednesday evening, about 50 members of the faculty and staff attended a welcome reception for the new provost and vice president of EMU, Kim Schatzel, who started on Jan. 3.
Repairs are progressing smoothly for maintenance crews at Eastern Michigan University’s Halle Library, and investigations are underway to determine why the pipe’s supports failed.
The repair process is underway at Halle Library after it was discovered that a clamp supporting a water return pipe had broken loose causing the pipe to come crashing down through the ground floor ceiling, triggering the sprinkler system in the process. The pipe, a 200-foot gravity-fed drainpipe, runs from the roof to the ground floor.
