President’s Day is upon us and The Echo asked students: “Who is your favorite president and why?”
“I don’t really have a favorite president.”
“I would say my favorite president is Abraham Lincoln because top hats are awesome.”
“I have to go with Abraham Lincoln. He’s just the one I know most about and he freed the slaves – that’s a big thing.”
“JFK is my favorite president. I think his charisma very much showed during his presidency and I think he really was one of those presidents who was a man of the people. So, I always idolized him.”
“It’s either between Benjamin Harrison or Theodore Roosevelt. Benjamin Harrison, I actually used to know, but I can’t remember anymore. Teddy Roosevelt because one, he was probably one of the coolest presidents we had and the only person we have today that matches him is Vladimir Putin – as in toughness.”
“My favorite president would probably be George Washington. He was one of the founding fathers and I think the idea of coming together and wanting to create a nation that was based on equality, based on freedom and based on using people’s will and determination to grow themselves. I really like that. Maybe it’s not specifically about him, but maybe what he represents.”

It seems that year after year Valentine’s Day is losing its luster. Known as the ultimate Hallmark holiday, it’s traditionally the day that couples express their love for each other by exchanging cards and gifts. The Echo asked couples: “Are you planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day? If so, how? If not, why?”

“We have plans to celebrate. We’re going to go out to dinner and a movie, because it’s just nice to spend time together.”
“This Valentine’s Day we do have plans. Before I was with him I never had plans, because I didn’t really celebrate it. But this year, we’re just planning on going to dinner. I have work until 8 p.m. so the next day we will probably do something.”
“We’re going out, because tomorrow is my birthday too. Candy and going out.”
