Marygrove College in Detroit will permanently cease to offer courses to current students as well cease admissions after the fall 2019 semester. Students at the Detroit college, which now only offers courses at the graduate level, will be able to complete their degrees at Eastern Michigan University.

Wesley Howell, director of EMU's Rec/IM department, said goodbye to Eastern Michigan University - and Michigan - at the beginning of the fall semester. After serving the students of EMU for over a year, Howell said he was excited but saddened to announce his acceptance of a position in the recreational facilities at the distinguished Stanford University near Palo Alto, California.

Eastern Michigan University paid an additional $400,000 deposit toward the purchase of 11 acres of land near campus as of June 4. The property consists of parcels 800-804 Lowell St., 298 Jarvis St. and 725 N. Huron St., all of which are owned by Urban Campus Communities LLC.
