Giving your time to help others selflessly helps to enhance your community and gives you a chance to make a difference in someone else’s life other than your own. According to an article written by the University of Roehampton, volunteering can help people develop and showcase valuable job skills, assisting them in becoming more employable.

Around this time last year, a skinny kid from South Central Los Angeles with brave fashion sense and a penchant for lyricism released the best rap album of 2012. His name was Kendrick Lamar Duckworth. The album was titled “good kid, M.A.A.D city,” and when you went to the record store that day or on your computer to download it (legally of course), then you could feel the goose bumps appear across your forearms. Real hip-hop fans knew a classic album had been constructed that was marketable, street sensible, and lyrical, the triple 7’s of crafting an LP in this particular genre of music. Nevertheless, on the other side of L.A., industry insiders, critics and fans alike were beginning to talk about another rapper with an entirely different lyrical style and mojo. Enter Schoolboy Q.

Being a college student often means being on a budget, which can unfortunately mean that paying for cable isn’t an option for many of us. But the universe is finally working in our favor, giving us Netflix, the cheaper alternative to cable.

As of right now, I have heard 100 albums in 2013. Even then, there’s still plenty of music I haven’t gotten to, including the new James Blake album, a new LP from Serengeti and several recent singles.

Like the one man trinity known as Superman/Clark Kent/Kal-El, producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder have a difficult time maintaining a consistent cinematic identity with their “Man of Steel.” “Steel” is an origin story that tells how Kal-El was born, shows how Clark was raised by foster parents in Kansas, and finally how Superman came to be.

Imagine a United States of America without crime. Imagine our country with an employment percentage higher than Steve Nash’s career free throw percentage (90.42 percent as of today). Now imagine working in customer service and knowing that for one day out of the year, you could legally murder every cheap, ignorant idiot that stiffs you out of a tip on a $200 bill. The key to this utopian United States with rock bottom crime rates and sky high employment rates is that for one day out of the year any and all crime is legal. You can murder, steal, loiter or even solicit next to “no-soliciting” signs.

I’m of the opinion that comedies, like horror movies, should be reviewed with a special filter.

There is simply nothing like summer in Michigan with its shimmering waters and lush greens marking the end of a cold winter and beginning of the beloved tradition of barbeque.

Producer and original director Sam Raimi and film star Bruce Campbell, who plays the film’s hero Ash, chose up-and-coming director Fede Alvarez to create a remake of the first in the “Evil Dead” series. This cult classic remake pulled in $1.8 million in late shows Thursday, creating more revenue than the original but leaving some fans with a bad taste in their mouths.

“Mormons can’t rock. There, I said it,” a friend of mine quipped about Low after I posted my overview of the band on Facebook. In response to that statement, I must bring up the Butler brothers of Arcade Fire and New York Dolls bassist Arthur Kane, as well as the fact that Low isn’t a particularly rocking band. Their style is mainly based around minimalism, harmony and beauty; three things that many people, including my friend, love about The xx, and what I love about Yo La Tengo’s “Fade.”

As a child, one of the coolest things to do on Easter morning was to go on an Easter egg hunt. The Easter Bunny would hide plastic eggs all throughout the house, and if you found them all, not only would you get the candy inside, but you would feel a sense of accomplishment.
