With all of the disposable rubbish that comes out of Hollywood, it’s a breath of fresh air when a good movie is released. It’s so unfortunate that the film industry has had the stink of the comic book genre linger on the business for years now. It would seem that a lot of the movies that get greenlit nowadays are the results of overeducated agents, ne’er-do-well producers and excessive cocaine use. But all of those bad feelings were purged upon one screening of “The Counselor.”

“Phantom Lady” by Cornell Woolrich is a murder mystery full of suspense, horror and psychological twists and turns. The novel follows the story of Scott Henderson, who has been accused and convicted of murdering his wife. The problem with this is that he didn’t do it. Henderson now has to convince the authorities, his friends and his mistress that he is innocent with a looming execution date hanging over his head.

On October 17th, I Am P.I.N.K. hosted a Dine and Donate at the Tower Inn in Ypsilanti. The Dine and Donate was one of the many events that was included during their “Pink Week” from Oct. 13th through the 19th. Twenty percent of all the proceeds from the event went back into the organization for resources that will be needed throughout the year. The event lasted from 5-10 p.m.

Ever since I was a little kid, I have been enchanted by modeling clay. I’ve always enjoyed working with the soft, squeezable texture and the possibility to make anything with a few shapes. A quick glance at the jewelry racks at stores like Icing and Claire’s reveals that cute and soft clay-molded critters and shapes are not just for preschoolers.

Just a 15-minute walk from Eastern Michigan University’s campus on Michigan Avenue is B-24’s Espresso Bar. If it’s too cold to spend 15 minutes walking, hop on the bus to the College of Business. B-24’s is across the street, and a quick stop to pick up a hot coffee or a sandwich.

On the morning of Oct. 26, cars lined up at the Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium parking lot to dispose of everything from traditional recyclables, electronic equipment and freon appliances to household hazardous materials such as paint, oil and cleaning supplies. The event was sponsored by Washtenaw County, LG Electronics USA and Vintage Tech Recyclers.

It was a cold and wet Saturday morning as local residents and students went out to the Ypsilanti Freighthouse plaza for the Depot Town Farmers’ Market. Vendors were jumping up and down to stay warm and children dressed up in Halloween costumes were pulled in bright red wagons. The smell of hot apple cider and popcorn was in the air. This marks the second to last of the weekends that the market is outside before it moves to the winter location in the Adams STEM Academy on Oak Street.

I’m a sucker for home-cooked meals, especially ones that are made by someone other than me. Home-cooked pizza is an especially delightful surprise, one sprung on me recently while visiting my friend Adam.
