For many students, the Freshman Fifteen can easily become the freshman fifty. Due to the many miscellaneous delicacies of sketchy nutritional value that can be bought on a college kid budget, eating healthy is next to impossible. And with the soaring prices of gym memberships, have fun trying to find the equipment or motivation to work all those empty calories off.

No one likes to be pasty during the summertime, especially at the beach. When surrounded by tanned, sexy bodies, you almost feel as if a ghost is among you, except that ghost is you in your half-naked, sour cream-white glory. But tanning beds can be dangerous and if you’re of Northern European descent, and therefore lacking in the melanin department (like a certain collegiate life editor and fashion columnist I know), pretty much ineffective.

It’s how many of us start out our day—standing half-asleep and befuddled in front of a closet crammed full of clothes, wondering why can’t you pick out just one thing to wear. Selecting an outfit for any given occasion, special or mundane, can be a daunting task. After all, you want your look to stand out, but not in a bad way.

Writing something deep and thoughtful in a fashion column makes about as much sense as, well, writing something deep and thoughtful in a fashion column. Fashion columns should be reserved for colorful descriptions and overuse of words like “fierce” and “trendy.” When you put too much thought into it, it kind of falls flat, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to try.
