Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Music and Dance will celebrate the relaunch of an ongoing campaign to outfit the entire department with Steinway pianos with an event at Ann Arbor’s Michigan Theater Sept. 23. This event will feature the documentary, “Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037” and piano performances by EMU music students and faculty.

Whether you’re paying your own way through school or receiving help from your parents, it goes without saying there are a ton of benefits to having a job in college; the ability to pay rent and feed yourself being a biggie. Balancing school and work teaches us valuable skills and responsibilities that we’ll need when it’s time to enter the “real world” everyone keeps telling us about.

The art of ceramics, consisting of much more than wheel-thrown pottery and pretty glazes, can be perfect and precise or distorted and unusual. The Ann Arbor Art Center’s latest exhibit, “Ceramics: Chaos to Perfection,” shows the varying styles of an art form some may not realize expresses such diversity.

For broke and busy students, it can be hard to stick to a strict, healthy routine of diet and exercise—especially since a lot of us seem to be the most productive between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., when our most viable options for sustenance are Taco Bell’s Fourth Meal and a few cans of Red Bull. But with cardiovascular disease as the top cause of death in Americans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it’s really important to make an effort to squeeze a few daily health practices into a busy college schedule to help maintain a strong heart.

While it may seem like job prospects for graduates are few and far between, there is some opportunity out there—you just might have to work for it. Danielle Crowder, a public relations major graduating this weekend, completed two internships during her last year of college and has another promising internship lined up.

What started out as a small branch of the Center for Multicultural Affairs has grown into a very promising student organization, with an active and dedicated membership. The Muslim Student Association at EMU has sewn itself tightly into the fabric of our community.

With temperatures continuously dropping, Eastern Michigan University’s Physical Plant has been preparing for winter by ensuring campus buildings and residence halls are adequately heated. Some students are not pleased with the results so far.

The most tell-tale sign that fall is here is the beautiful colors the trees don before the leaves fall off for winter. Within a couple weeks, trees go from the vibrant, summery green to brilliant orange and red colors we all associate with the season.

Eastern Michigan University’s Center for Multicultural Affairs teamed with Hillel at EMU, the Holy Trinity Student Parrish and the Muslim Student Association last Wednesday to present “Thou Shall Not: an Interfaith Discussion.” The event sought to answer the question, “Is religion inherently violent?”
