Faculty and staff will have a chance to show off their skills next month during Eastern’s Got Talent, EMU’s annual employee talent show.
The talent show will be held in the Student Center ballroom as a part of the employee-only President’s Holiday Party, from 3-5 p.m. on December
6.
“It’s a showcase of outstanding employee talent,” EMU’s associate vice president of marketing Ted Coutilish. “People have so many skills that you never see outside of the workplace.”
Acts the employee-only audience will be able to see include comedy performances, acting, singing and a surprise impersonation.
As for who will be performing?
“We aren’t saying,” said Coutilish, who is in charge of the talent show. “It’s going to be a surprise. We just want people to come out and
support their fellow employees.”
Four of the 12 performers will be faculty members.
Another secret being withheld before the show is the grand prize, which will be offered to one performer. All of the performers and judges will receive a “I am TruEMU” gift package.
The three judges will be Jon Margerum-Lays, Lynette Findley and Linda Yohn. The master of ceremonies of Eastern’s Got Talent will be Walter Kraft.
While there is no cost for employees to attend the event, they are encouraged to bring a canned good to donate to the SOS Community Services Group. SOS is a group formed by two EMU alumni to help give clothes and food items to families in need.
“They’re a very important group to Ypsilanti,” Coutilish said. “We do what we can to help them, to show the university’s appreciation for all
that they do for the community.”
As this is an employee-only event, students were not involved in the production, nor are they allowed to attend.
“We do a lot of events that are student-only, and a lot that are for both staff and students,” Coutilish said.
This event is by employees, for employees.
“It’s a little fun entertainment for us before we all leave for break.”
