	Eastern Michigan University’s 32 student-athletes who earned 4.0 GPA’s this past fall, some of whom are pictured above, prove that brains and brawn can go together well.

It is no easy task to balance playing sports and academics, but 32 Eastern Michigan University student-athletes achieved both and then some by finishing the Fall 2013 semester with a 4.0 grade point average.

The spring/summer semester is in full swing, but don’t worry; there is a way for the students staying on campus or commuting for their summer classes to get a break from their busy schedule, as the baseball team as well as the men’s and women’s track teams are still competing.


Baseball defeats WMU, 7-1, Friday

Friday was a special day for redshirt senior Brian Hill and the Eastern Michigan University baseball team in its 7-1 win over Western Michigan University. Hill (W, 5-1) took a no-hitter into the ninth inning for the Eagles (16-18), but with one out in the top of the ninth, he surrendered a single to Andrew Sohn, ending the no-no bid.


	The Eagles beat the Broncos 9-5 Saturday at Oestrike Stadium. EMU’s next game is Tuesday.

Coming off a near no-hitter for the Eastern Michigan University baseball team Friday, the team continued its successes Saturday with a 9-5 win against the Western Michigan University Broncos at Oestrike Stadium.

Designated hitter debacle

April 6, 1973 was opening day of Major League Baseball and the Boston Red Sox hosted the New York Yankees at Fenway Park; this was the first game designated hitters were used in the starting lineups for American League teams.





	Freshman Nick Rotola runs to make a catch. The Eagles had 21 players see action in Tuesday’s game, when a two-out rally in the fifth inning gave the team enough runs to defeat the Cardinals.

EMU beats Concordia in first home game

The Eastern Michigan University baseball team hosted its first home game of the year against the Concordia University Cardinals on Tuesday. A two-out rally in the fifth inning gave EMU (10-13) just enough runs to edge Concordia for their first Oestrike victory of the year, 4-3.


	The Tigers will start the season April 1 against the Minnesota Twins and play at home April 5.

It’s finally here: The Detroit Tigers baseball season. After suffering through the long, cold, stormy fall and winter seasons, being surrounded by all the noise of basketball, hockey and playoff football, we’ve survived. After being teased with the drumroll of spring training and the World Baseball Classic, we can finally have what we really want: No, not graduation (although that would be nice), but Tigers baseball.

Cincinnati falls to EMU in game two

The Eastern Michigan University baseball team picked up its fifth win of the year in game two of its weekend set against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats Saturday. A combination of good pitching and a last-minute rally did just the trick for the Eagles.

All nine batters for the Eastern Michigan University baseball team (4-9) scored in the fourth inning, which propelled the Eagles to a 10-4 victory over the University of Cincinnati Bearcats (4-6) at Marge Schott Stadium Friday night.

With snow forcing the relocation of the Jayhawk Classic, Eastern Michigan University and the Kansas University Jayhawks traveled to a neutral site in Grand Prairie, Texas for a four-game series.

Part two of the four-game series at Washington State University ended with a sweep by the WSU Cougars as Eastern Michigan University’s baseball team lost both games in Sunday’s double-header.
