Men’s basketball beats Rochester Warriors

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team started the defense of their Mid-American Conference West title Friday in their 66-52 victory over the Rochester College Warriors at the Convocation Center.

Watkins looks to honor her family and team

Natachia Watkins changed her Eastern Michigan University basketball number to 50 in honor of her sister, who passed away after last season. “My sister played basketball in high school and college at Notre Dame College and she wore [number] 50,” Watkins said.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team won their exhibition game with a 77-57 victory over Wayne State University Nov. 6. Leading the way for the Eagles was redshirt senior forward Miranda Tate with 23 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Natachia Watkins wasn’t far behind, adding 10 points and seven rebounds of her own.

The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team enters the season as the defending Mid-American Conference champions, on the heels of a 23-9 record (13-3 MAC West) as well as the West Division title. They lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament to the University of South Carolina by a score of 80-48.

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team enters the season as the reigning Mid-American Conference West Division Champions. On Oct. 30, the Eagles were projected to finish second in the west in the MAC preseason rankings, receiving four first place votes.

With the final buzzer sounding off on a 68-57 victory for Eastern Michigan University over the University of Illinois-Chicago, the Rob Murphy era got off to an excellent and positive start. Junior guard Derek Thompson led EMU in the scoring with 17 points with Darrell Lampley shooting for 12 points.
