JAM hosts open mic night

Just Arts and Music holds an open mic night monthly to find and showcase new talent. The event offers students a chance to get their feet wet onstage, often for the first time.


Festivities have a strong turnout

During a long-standing tradition for Eastern Michigan University, students and alumni joined in the festivities as Saturday’s game quickly approached. Homecoming means different things to different people and the experience is as unique as the EMU fans living it.

Music filled the air as the court stepped onto the center of the football field. There were men decked in suits, ladies in sparkling dresses and a large crowd of spectators shrieking with excitement through it all.


BBQueer event kickoff

Eastern Michigan University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center held its fourth annual BBQueer event Tuesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. outside Bob’s Lakehouse on the north side of campus.




	“Paper towns” is the choice of words to describe the very lifestyle of consumerist people whose every intent in life is based on the conjecture of monetary and social gain. Paper people could be described as people who are living, but not truly alive.

“It’s a paper town. I mean look at it, Q: look at all those cul-de-sacs, those streets that turn in on themselves, all the houses that were built to fall apart. All those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to stay warm. All the paper kids drinking beer some bum bought for them at the paper convenience store. Everyone demented with the mania of owning things. All the things paper-thin and paper-frail. And all the people too.”


Bona Sera gives off a sense of community

On the corner of West Michigan Avenue and Washington Street stands Bona Sera Café, with its twinkling lights in the windows and brightly colored chalkboard listing today’s specials outside.

Remembering Tupac

Sept. 13, 1996 was a somber day when the music industry was at a standstill after the death of Hip-Hop legend Tupac Shakur was killed at the age of 25 in a drive by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. During his controversial five year career, his compelling lyricism with his poetic narrations of life of the streets and his anger with the treatment of young black males paralleled and made people take notice.

Controversial rapper Kanye West, who has won 21 Grammy awards for his work, is bringing his anticipated “The Yeezus Tour” on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. to The Palace of Aurburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Fifth annual BBQueer approaching

Eastern Michigan University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center will be holding its fifth annual BBQueer at Big Bob’s Lake House from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17. This welcome back event for the 2013-14 school year, open to all students and staff members, will demonstrate the scale of support for the LGBT community present on campus.

"Riddick" has flaws but functions as action-packed fun

Riddick,” the newest chapter in “The Chronicles of Riddick” series, is an enjoyable science fiction thriller and the third live-action film to receive a theatrical release. It stars Vin Diesel as Riddick, a dangerous criminal with modified eyes that see exceptionally well in the dark.
