With midterms coming to a conclusion, Eastern students are finally getting a chance to come out of their studying caves and Eagle on the Street was there to ask: How do you celebrate the end of midterms?

Monday, Nov. 2 Sigma Nu will host the second annual Cleanin' Up Ypsi at 6:30-8 p.m., Monday, at 125 North Normal Street, to pick up litter around town.

The Eastern Michigan University football team kicked off their most recent home game with a pep rally in the convocation center on Thursday. The band played up-beat songs by artists like Bruno Mars and Megan Trainor while the Pompon Team danced along and the cheerleaders did routines to the music.

Student wins free tuition at football game

Freshman Alex Theisen won a year of free tuition at the football game against Western Michigan University Thursday night. Swoop’s Free Tuition Toss is Eastern Michigan University’s newest attempt at increasing attendance at football games. According to EMU, Theisen’s award covers 24 credit hours, worth approximately $10,000. Two students were chosen at random to participate in the competition.

Student Government holds regular committee meetings

The Business and Finance Committee passed 10 student organization and club sport allocations at its regular meeting Tuesday night in the Student Center. They are as follows: The International Student Association was granted two allocations of $1,042.87 and $551.46 to hold two events. Professionals in Sports and Fitness Leadership received an allocation of $1,822.78 to hold group fitness sessions. The Psychology Club was allocated $554.38 to hold a fundraiser. The Muslim Student Association was granted an allocation of $846 to hold a dinner. Men’s Club Volleyball received an allocation of $350 for game registration fees. The Indian Student Association was allocated $1,217 to hold an event. Beta Alpha Psi was granted an allocation of $1,000 to hold a banquet. You Beautiful Black Women received an allocation of $517.95 to hold a workshop. Kingdom Come was allocated $535.65 to hold an event. The Public Affairs Committee discussed a Drag Show it hopes to hold in the winter semester. Academic and Student Affairs continued plans for Club Halle.

ASAP to hold Halloween Safety Dance

Eastern Michigan University's Alliance for Sexual Assault Prevention, in collaboration with Omega Phi Alpha and Feminists for Change, will hold its first Halloween Safety Dance at 7-10 p.m., Saturday at Big Bob’s Lake House. ASAP’s Safety Dance is based on the song, “Safety Dance,” by Canadian new wave band, Men Without Hats.

Office of Academic Service Learning awarded $3,600 to start Y Trikes

Eastern Michigan University’s Office of Academic Service Learning received a Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs mini-grant of $3,600 through the Arts Alliance. The grant will be used to launch Y Trikes: A Community Art & Building Project, which will refurbish, design and repurpose at least 10 adult tricycles.

Eagle Flight Centre names new chief flight instructor

Ed St. Antoine is Eastern Michigan University’s Eagle Flight Centre’s new chief flight instructor. Tom Trumbull, president of the center, said the FAA God Seal instructor has qualities a good flight instructor should possess, such as passion for aviation and teaching. “Ed has shown a true desire to make a difference at our organization and with our students,” Trumbull said in a statement.
