Black Friday can bring people together, improve the economy

On Friday, consumers throughout America participated in the first shopping day of the holiday season, known as Black Friday. Numerous stores such as Wal-Mart, Kmart, JC Penney and Macy’s opened their doors to the public at 5 a.m. or earlier to give consumers the opportunity to get great deals on holiday gifts for their loved ones.

Destinee Leapheart awoke to a loud noise and a sharp pain in her shoulder. Initially brushing it off as just her shoulder popping, she felt fluid on her hand. Using her phone as a light source, she realized that what covered her hand was blood. She had been shot.

EMU student struck by stray bullet at Peninsular Place

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating an incident early Tuesday morning where an Eastern Michigan University student was struck by a bullet, which was fired into her Peninsular Place apartment building.

Digital Inclusion store opens

Two men arrested in connection with Reed homicide

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Eastern Michigan University football player Demarius Reed, according to court records. The Ann Arbor News reported that Ed Jemeal Thomas and Kristopher Kaivon Pratt, both 20, face charges murder and robbery charges.

Certification exam changes threaten education students

The Michigan Department of Education announced new testing standards in the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) earlier this month. Education majors are required to pass this standardized certification test before obtaining their teaching license in the state of Michigan.

EMU to apply for environmental grant

Students For Life, ADF lawsuit resolved

The lawsuit between Eastern Michigan University and the Christian legal ministry Alliance Defending Freedom has been resolved. Under the resolution, the university’s Student Government will amend its fund allocations to accommodate all student groups. EMU’s insurance company, Michigan Universities Self-Insurance Corporation will pay the plaintiffs’ attorney fees of $3,000.

Planned Parenthood holds informational talk

Bye-bye Blockbuster: Rental giant to close remaining stores

According to an article from EMU’s Division of Communications, the campaign will correspond with the national #GivingTuesday movement. This national movement promotes charitable events that support nonprofit organizations.
