Sept. 21 A minor found acting strangely in Pittman Hall at 1:46 a.m. admitted to smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. Several minors in Phelps Hall admitted to drinking alcohol at 2:23 a.m.

Students can take steps to ensure safety

The Eastern Michigan University Police Department is the campus’ best source of student safety. But it is also essential that students do their part to insure their own safety and the safety of others at EMU.


	According to Washtenaw County’s website, “Texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to be in an accident.”

Washtenaw County promotes ‘It Can Wait’ campaign

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office and LaFontaine Automotive Group have teamed up to promote AT&T’s anti-texting and driving campaign, “It Can Wait.” On Sept. 19, they asked Washtenaw County residents to take a pledge at itcanwait.com to refrain from texting and driving.


	On Friday, the Eastern Michigan University Advising and Career Development Center hosted an IT job fair in the Student Center. Representatives from 10 different companies set up individual stations in room 310 of the EMU Student Center. Students spoke with each of the representatives in an interview-like format.

Unknown fluid draining into Huron River, originating from EMU campus

An unknown liquid was found draining into the Huron River from a pipe originating on Eastern Michigan University’s campus, according to an article published by The Ann Arbor News on MLive.com. Washtenaw County’s HAZMAT and the Environmental Protection Agency have been collecting and testing the white fluid.

Student senate approves bus resolution, sustainability committee

On Tuesday, Eastern Michigan University’s student senate discussed whether it should support the implementation of a student fee of $0.93 for Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority bus passes, to establish an ad hoc Energy and Sustainability Committee for the 2013-2014 year and to remove a section from the bylaws of student government. All three resolutions passed.

Model UN club to go to conference

Eastern Michigan University’s Model United Nations club will be traveling to Chicago in November to attend the American Model United Nations Conference. They will bring two teams to represent Palestine and Guatemala.
