Lecturer shares startling stats about poverty

The Honors College’s star lecture series for this year is all about exploring issues around poverty. On Tuesday, philosophy professor Peter Higgins spoke in the Student Center Ballroom about the philosophy side of poverty. The name of the lecture was “Charity, Beneficence, or Justice?” Higgins did a lecture for last year’s star lecture series and came back this year by popular demand.

Bathhouse Reading held in Student Center

On Tuesday the Eastern Michigan University creative writing program held its Bathhouse Reading Series featuring authors Douglas Kearney and Tisa Bryant in the Student Center Auditorium. Bryant’s first readings came from her book “Unexplained Presence,” which is a collection of hybrid essays punctuated by ekphrastic poems.

Speaker discusses growth after traumatic events

On Wednesday in Pray-Harrold, Amis Harbin, an assistant professor in both the philosophy and women and gender studies programs at Oakland University, gave a speech called “The Limits of Post-Traumatic Growth.” In it, she discussed many professional views on the topic as well as her own view.

WRC wraps up Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Women’s Resource Center hosted the final event in their domestic violence awareness month series on Wednesday. The event was a screening of the documentary “No Way Out But One.” After the documentary screened, WRC coordinator Ellen Collier lead a discussion about domestic violence and of the issues raised by the film.

The journal takes a look at a changing-but-interactive process of global communication, according to an article from the Division of Communications.
