Detroit financial crisis similar to NY

In 1975, New York City suffered a financial crisis similar to the one Detroit is in now, and city leaders found themselves under the auspices of a state authority. An inordinate amount of municipal debt left the city unable to fund basic services and default appeared imminent.

Research from the University of Cambridge suggests that the pages people “like” on Facebook can be used to determine their race, intelligence, emotional stability, religion, sexual orientation and political views.



Medical marijuana restrictions increase

New legislation has made Ypsilanti’s medical marijuana dispensaries wary. “Basically, patient to patient sales are now illegal, and caregivers are only able to distribute medicine to their five registered patients,” said Katie Johnson, manager at the local medical marijuana dispensary Sticky Ypsi, located at 1090 N. Huron River Drive.

Adidas denies responsibility for severance pay

Representatives from Adidas said the company was not legally responsible to pay former workers of the closed down PT Kizone factory in Indonesia, when Adidas representatives addressed an audience Tuesday in Eastern Michigan University’s Welch Hall.

According to Mandiant, a company focused on intense cybersecurity of major companies, about 140 American companies and other global organizations have been hacked into by Chinese hackers.

Ypsi streetlight upgrade

The cost per city parcel for the scheduled conversion of 260 mercury vapor streetlights to LED along the East Michigan Avenue and Ecorse area was discussed at a special Ypsilanti City Council work session Tuesday night.
