Abercrombie and Fitch CEO’S comment sparks controversy

The over-priced and over-perfumed brand Abercrombie and Fitch is being chastised in the media lately for not carrying XL and XXL women’s sizes in their stores because the CEO of the company only wants the “cool kids” to wear his company’s clothing. Overweight women are not included in the A&F definition of the “in-crowd,” according to the personal opinion of Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries.

UMC volunteers for the LGBTQ community— The Unity Michigan Coalition is looking for interested volunteers to help organize an end to discrimination in the state of Michigan. The volunteers will be asked to attend local LGBTQ pride events and collect information from other attendees at the events.

Adidas reaches agreement

Adidas has agreed to pay workers from the closed down PT Kizone factory in Indonesia, and some Eastern Michigan University students who actively campaigned for the cause said it’s a positive notion for workers’ rights, according to a press release from United Students Against Sweatshops.

Heart Walk sets new monetary goal

The 2013 Washtenaw County Heart Walk will take place Sunday, May 19. The start location will be at Washtenaw Community College, located at 4800 E. Huron River Drive in Ann Arbor.

WEMU’S Clark Smith retires

Clark Smith, 89.1 FM WEMU’s program director, retired May 3 after 30 years of service. He was originally hired on as the news director for the station in May 1983 and then named program director in 2007, according to a press release issued by WEMU.

Softball player is named MAC West Player of Week

Amanda Stanton is the starting second baseman for the Eastern Michigan University softball team and was also named Mid-American Conference West division Player of the Week last week following a stellar week, in which she hit 7-for-14 with three home runs (including a grand slam), and raised her batting average from .301 to .325.
