Smoke-free Air Law has no strong effect on bar sales

A Sept. 17 report released by the Michigan Department of Community Health found the Dr. Ron Davis Smoke-free Air Law, effective since May 1, 2010, did not have a significantly negative impact on bar, restaurant or cigarette sales in Michigan.

Eastern Michigan University senior Terefe Ejigu definitely made his mark Friday at the University of Toledo’s Bubble Buster Invitational as he earned his second consecutive first-place finish for the Eagle’s cross country team.

Support sought for tuition equality

“We’re not going to stop fighting for this,” Eastern Michigan University student Katie Mercer said. Mercer spoke before the EMU Board of Regents Sept. 18 on behalf of the organization Dare to Dream, which is asking the university to adopt in-state tuition rates for undocumented students.

Volleyball team defeats Northern Illinois

The Eastern Michigan women’s volleyball team broke their five-match losing streak Sept. 22, when they defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-19). Senior outside hitter Rachel Iaquaniello led the way with 14 kills and 11 digs.
