Eagles come home Saturday

The Eastern Michigan women’s basketball team will return home for a two-game stretch when it plays Mid-American Conference East foe Miami (Ohio) at 2 p.m.



Gymnastics gets first win

The Eastern Michigan University women’s gymnastics team was able to gather its first win of the season against Texas Women’s University but came up just short against their MAC rival Central Michigan University on Friday.

Woodruff’s Bar, located at 36 E. Cross Street in Ypsilanti, often plays host to local talent. This past Wednesday the popular bar served up musical performances by local bands Walk Your Bike, The Rabbit Done Died and The Marietta. The music, which began at 10 p.m., lasted past 2 a.m.

Pell Grant eligibility rules changing in '12

In what has been called a “tremendous loss” to students not only at Eastern Michigan University but institutions around the country, EMU Financial Aid Director Cynthia Van Pelt said students who were full-time during fall and winter semesters will no longer be eligible for Pell Grants during the upcoming summer semester. “It’s a big loss for us and really for every school and all of our students that are Pell eligible,” Van Pelt said.

Students need to be more aware of alternatives to student loans

Michigan has the 11th-highest student debt load in the country. In 2010, the average student with a bachelor’s degree graduated with $25,675 debt from student loans. In the 2009-10 academic year, the annual amount of loans taken out by college students reached $1.8 billion, a 49 percent increase from 2007.


Men win a tight 41-38 game against Toledo

Tough defense, strong rebounding and a clutch performance from senior guard Quintin Dailey helped lead the Eagles to a 41-38 victory over the University of Toledo Rockets and keep their share of the Mid American Conference West Division lead.

Sexual assault on EMU campus

A safety notice was issued by the EMU Police Department at 1:44 p.m. Wednesday informing the Eastern community that a female student was sexually assaulted at 7:40 p.m.


Sophomore forward's game runs in family

Following in the footsteps of her mother and father is what got Olivia Fouty into basketball. Fouty’s father played basketball for two years at Owens Community College and her mother played when she was younger.
