The Eastern Michigan University women’s basketball team lost to the University of Akron, 72-46, in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament Wednesday night in Cleveland, Ohio.

Regents listen to union pitch

More than two dozen Eastern Michigan University adjunct lecturers packed the seats at a Board of Regents meeting Tuesday, to voice their support for forming a union. Mark Wenzel and Peter Thomason, adjuncts at EMU, spoke on behalf of the Adjunct Lecturers’ Organizing Committee, the organization formed to help adjuncts organize.

Adjunct lecturers fight to form union

In Oct. of 2000 an agreement between Eastern Michigan University and the EMU chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) was approved by the EMU Board of Regents in a special meeting, according to a 2001 EMU press release. Now, nine years later, the adjunct lecturers of EMU are fighting to form their own union and obtain a similar agreement with the university.

President's Scholarship goes to 16

Sixteen Eastern Michigan University freshmen have been awarded the Presidential Scholarship, the largest academic award at EMU. The scholarship is a four-year full-ride award that pays 30 credit hours each year of in-state tuition, housing, food allowance and mandatory fees.
