Mid-October has arrived and with it comes midterm season. Note: The only opportunity to see EMU Athletics in action is Saturday’s game against Ohio University. Here is the full schedule this week:


BSU snaps EMU’s streak

The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team fell for the first time in conference play, losing to Ball State University 1-0 on Oct. 11 at Scicluna Field. The loss also snapped Eastern’s six-game winning streak.


Central Michigan sweeps Eagles

·

The Eastern Michigan University women’s volleyball team returned to the Convocation Center Thursday night to host the Central Michigan Chippewas. Central Michigan (8-9, 2-3 Mid-Amercan Conference) swept EMU (11-9, 1-4 MAC) in three sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-21). Eastern has lost four of their last five matches.


Cross-country wins MIC at Hillsdale

Eastern Michigan University’s men’s cross-country team took part in the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships at Hillsdale College’s Hayden Park on Friday, Oct. 11.


Women’s volleyball team falls in four sets

The Eastern Michigan University women’s volleyball team couldn’t pull off the upset against No. 18 Ohio University Saturday night at the Convocation Center as they fell in four sets (25-23, 25-7, 21-25, 25-14). No. 18 Ohio (15-3, 5-1 MAC) took the match three sets to one over Eastern Michigan (11-10, 1-5 MAC).


	Heather Lyke is the first woman in EMU’s history to be full-time Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Week in and week out over the last couple of seasons, fans have watched the sun set on most Saturdays with Eastern Michigan University football being embarrassed by schools in the Mid-American Conference and teams from other leagues such as the Big Ten Conference and American Athletic Conference. Even worse, the same old script of whether or not EMU athletic director Heather Lyke will relieve head coach Ron English of his duties now or at season’s end has reached its apex. Given the double-digit losses of the last five weeks (45-7 at Penn State, 28-16 at Rutgers, 51-20 vs.


EMU football blown out by Army, 50-25

Army’s triple-option offense took over in the second half Saturday afternoon against Eastern Michigan University in a 50-25 victory at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y. EMU (1-5, 0-2 Mid-American Conference) lost its fifth consecutive game, letting up at least 42 points for the third consecutive week.


MAC honors Clarke

For the second time in her career, Eastern Michigan University senior forward/midfielder Stephanie Clarke has been named Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the week.


Jones brings high energy to bear in volleyball

·

Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Jones is usually dancing when she comes out of the locker room before Eastern Michigan University volleyball games. The coaching staff and her teammates say Jones is high energy during the game, in practice and on the sidelines. If she isn’t playing, she’s cheering and creating positive energy for her teammates.



Soph. Grehan places first

The Eastern Michigan University men’s golf team finished third, in a field of 17, at the Firestone Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron on Oct. 7-8. The women’s team finished tied for third, in a field of 16, at the Mid-American Conference Preview, at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club, in Fishers, Ind. Oct 7-8.

Cross-country teams finish top 20

The Eastern Michigan University men’s and women’s cross-country teams were hoping for better finishes Friday at the 58th annual Notre Dame Invitational, but their experience will have to do for now.


EMU’s swim and diving teams hold intrasquad meet

The Eastern Michigan University swimming and diving teams held an intrasquad meet in the Jones Natatorium Saturday to round out preseason training. The men’s white team won 140-114 while the women’s green team took a victory with a 136-121 score.


Western conquers Eastern in volleyball

·

The Eastern Michigan University Eagles (11-7, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) faced the Western Michigan University Broncos (9-7, 2-1 MAC) Saturday night in Kalamazoo. Western Michigan defeated EMU three sets to one (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22).


Eagles lose to NIU Huskies in 4 sets

The Eastern Michigan University women’s volleyball team (11-6, 1-1 MAC) lost to the Northern Illinois Huskies (9-7, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) in DeKalb, Ill. on Friday. The match was the first conference game for Northern Illinois at home this season. Northern Illinois beat EMU three sets to one (24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 25-21).
