Basketball: Spring Break Roundup

While Eastern Michigan University students took last week off, the men’s basketball team continued to work, but fell short by going 1-2 during the break. The Eagles began the mid-winter break with a 73-65 victory Feb. 21, on the road at Northern Illinois. Mike Talley scored a career high 25 points while Karrington Ward followed with 21 points. Both players also played all 40 minutes in the contest to help complete the season sweep over the Huskies.

Men's golf places eighth in California

Eastern Michigan University’s men’s golf team placed 8-of-11 Tuesday at the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic in Long Beach, California, Tuesday. The University of California Irvine won the tournament with a total 838 stroke total, followed by Campbell University (847), Sacramento State (851), Long Beach State (851), Denver University (851), University of Denver (851), Wichita State (857), EMU (858), Fresno State (865), University of California Santa Barbara (874), and CSU-Northridge (888). Senior spotlight: Mike Talley III Talley will leave EMU at the end of the season reaching past the 1,000 point plateau for his collegiate career and brought plenty of experience to the Eagles in his two years playing for the green and white. Position: Guard Age: 22 Major: Sports Management Hometown: Detroit High School: Melvindale Academy of Business and Technology Talley transferred to EMU after two years at Duquesne.Talley transferred to EMU because he wanted to be closer to home. “Coach Murphy had some influence on my decision,” Talley said.

EMU downs Ball State in last road game of regular season

The Eastern Michigan University men’s basketball team traveled to Muncie, Ind. and avenged an early season loss against Ball State by defeating the Cardinals 67-60 in their second matchup of the season. With the win, the Eagles finish the regular season 4-9 on the road, but EMU head coach Rob Murphy views this win as a big one moving forward, despite Ball State’s abysmal 2-15 conference record. “I thought tonight was a very good road win for us,” Murphy said.

EMU grapplers drop final duel to CMU

On senior night, Feb. 20, at the EMU Convocation Center Friday night, Eastern Michigan University’s wrestling team dropped their final dual meet of the year by a score of 24-12 to Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan University. For Eagles Jake Byers, Mike Curby and brothers Brandon and Collin Zeerip, this would be the final time they would be able to come out to be introduced as Eagles in front of their home crowd.


EMU Baseball team loses 5-3 to Santa Clara Broncos

Eastern Michigan University baseball team lost to the Santa Clara Broncos 5-3 Saturday, Feb. 28. The Broncos had a 5-0 lead all the way into the ninth inning until EMU’s Michael Mioduszewski hit a three-run triple in the final inning still leaving them down two runs at the end of the game.

2015 football season schedule preview

As spring workouts begin for Eastern Michigan University’s football team, head coach Chris Creighton and his team, can now start the process of game-planning officially with the schedule released for the upcoming season. For the third straight season, EMU opens up at home, welcoming in Old Dominion Sept.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles gymnastics team has a packed Mid-American Conference schedule for this weekend as they travel to Kalamazoo Friday night to take on the Broncos of Western Michigan and then return home for a senior day meet against Ball State.

EMU men's basketball team falls to Bulls

For only the second time this season, Eastern Michigan men’s basketball team lost at home, falling to the University of Buffalo 78-63. After shooting over 50 percent in the previous two games, EMU struggled only converting on 36 percent of its field goal attempts. “We never got anything going,” EMU coach Rob Murphy said.

EMU suffers two back-to-back tourney losses

The Eastern Michigan University softball team (0-4) suffered two back-to-back losses Saturday during the second day of Texas A&M Tournament play.



Eastern Michigan forward Karrington Ward scored 22 points and pulled in 10 rebounds in the Eagles 83-69 win over Miami (OH) Feb. 10 2015 at the Convocation Center.

Earning Player of the Week honors is a sign of Karrington Ward’s improved health, and Eastern Michigan University will need him as the stretch run of the season with the Mid-Atlantic Conference tournament not far away.

With five meets left for the Eastern Michigan gymnastics team before the Mid-American Championship, the Eagles are currently deadlocked with the Central Michigan Chippewas for first place in the MAC.
