Tuesday, Jan. 6 Alcohol was found and confiscated from a dorm room in Wise Hall during a room check at 4:58 p.m.. The alcohol was found in the room of two underage students.

City Council considers two new ordinances

Two ordinances underwent a first reading at the Ypsilanti City Council meeting Tuesday evening. A public hearing has been set for the second readings, to be Feb.

EMU earns Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification

Eastern Michigan University received recognition for exceptional levels of community engagement with the Carnegie Foundation’s 2015 Community Engagement Classification, the foundation said in a statement Wednesday. Eastern is one of 240 campuses in the United States to receive the classification.

Dec. 21 During a traffic stop near Huron River Drive and Oakwood Street at 12:34 a.m., police noticed narcotic paraphernalia in the back seat of the vehicle.

Student government roundup, Jan. 6

Committees with Student Senate volunteers oversee and handle Student Government’s affairs. These committees and members of the executive board deal with the daily functions of Student Government as a whole. The following committees meet biweekly: Internal affairs Public affairs Business and finance Academic and student affairs Internal affairs The Internal Affairs committee discussed resolution number 101-007, which discusses confidentiality to protect Senators from discussing sensitive issues in an open forum.

EMU transitions to a tobacco-free campus

Eastern Michigan University recently adopted a tobacco-free campus policy. The Board of Regents voted to pass this policy Friday afternoon at their winter regular meeting. The tobacco-free policy is to move toward supporting a healthier learning, living and work environment for the EMU campus.

Monday, Dec. 1 Police received an anonymous third party report about the possibility of unwanted and inappropriate touching.

DPS to get body cameras

Eastern Michigan University’s, Department of Public Safety will be investing $17,000 in body cameras for police officers. The cameras will be used for officers "on foot patrol, bicycle patrol and other activity not occurring near or around a police vehicle.”

EMU MESA Presents a Panel Discussion on Race: Making the Minority the Majority Middle Eastern Student Association, The Native American Student Organization, BLACK, and Latino Student Association will come together for a discussion on dealing with racial stereotypes in our community from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, in room 350 of the Student Center. The discussion is open to all students. The event is LBC approved.

The Michigan House approved a pilot program that would allow for suspicion-based drug testing on welfare recipients, on Wednesday.
