When I a student at EMU in 1987 we won the MAC and played the champion of the WAC. What a difference a couple decades make. Back then the EMU Hurons (#120) and San Jose State University (#114) played in the California Bowl. A smaller version of the Rose Bowl. San Jose was ranked #18 in the polls and had a very good offence. Eastern was led led by Coach Jim Harkema and quaterback Ron Adams. Eastern came out running the wishbone and with amazing ball control never let SanJose’s offence on the field. Eastern won a great game. I just wanted to let everyone know that Eastern was great once and can be again. As an undergraduate during that time we thought that kind of football would last but the program has gone up and down. Hopefully, Coach English can get us on the right track again and maybe we can get to some more bowl games that the current and future students can remember and talk about. EMU does have a good football tradition it just gets forgotten once in a while.
