The Eastern Echo

News and nonsense spiced with nerve

Letter to the Editor: Gaddafi

I would like to commend The Eastern Echo on how they handled the sensitive subject of Gaddafi’s death. There was a real ease when reading “Apathy Greets Gaddafi’s Death,” posted online on Oct. 23, 2011. The article was respectful, yet it still incorporated the harsh facts of who Gaddafi was. With other news outlets, articles almost went as far as celebrating the death of Gaddafi, but The Eastern Echo did a nice job of staying neutral.

While Gaddafi was not a peaceful man, he was still a man. Many believe he deserved to die, but, as shown in this article, they also believed he deserved a fair trial before his death, or his execution could have been handled with more respect than he had shown to others.

I was pleased to see The Eastern Echo showing the apathy of Eastern Michigan University students. The article also demonstrated we do have a heart and we are concerned with events outside of our bubble that college sometimes creates.
