Women end regular season with loss to Toledo

EMU will look to get even at the Mid-American Conference tournament Feb. 23-25

The Eastern Michigan University women’s swim and dive team concluded its regular season Saturday with a 188.5-107.5 loss to the University of Toledo in Toledo.

EMU (5-5, 2-3 MAC) got wins from junior Briana Emig in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events and placed second in the 200 individual medley. Junior diver Kelly Hendricks won in the one-meter dive with a score of 270.07. The Eagles also claimed a
1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle relay, teams separated by two seconds and got third in the 200 medley relay.

Toledo (5-2, 4-0 MAC) was coming off a 185-115 win in Muncie, Ind. versus Ball State and looked to remain undefeated against Mid-American Conference opponents. Toledo started the meet on the right foot with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay with the A-team finishing three seconds ahead of the B-team.

Toledo senior Laura Lindsay won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, while junior Carly Harter also got two victories in the 100 and 200 freestyle categories. Other Toledo swimmers collecting two wins were sophomores Christina Noens in the 100 and 200 backstroke and Beth Rogers in the 100 and 200 butterfly. Junior diver Nikki Schropp qualified for the NCAA Championship by winning the three-meter dive with a 286.72 score.

In Eastern Michigan’s meet against Miami on Friday, EMU lost the home finale to Miami 167-132. Emig won for EMU in the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle events. Freshman Jessica Godlewski got victories in the 100 and 200 butterfly categories. Junior diver Danielle Hulvey claimed victory for Eastern Michigan in the one-meter dive with a 296.70, with Miami sophomore Nikki Craft finishing second, scoring 295.05. The Miami team won in both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays.

The teams will meet each other again in the MAC Championship in Akron, Ohio. The MAC title meet takes place over the weekend of Feb. 23-25.
